Setup

- 01Run the installer and open Aside from the Start menu.
- 02Sign in with your email — we send a six-digit code, there is no password.
- 03Upload your résumé once, or skip it if you are only using meetings.
- 04Start a session before your call and leave it running.
macOS
- 01Open the .dmg and drag Aside into Applications.
- 02Launch it and grant Screen Recording permission when macOS asks — this is what lets it capture the call's audio.

Why a desktop app
Three things a browser tab simply cannot do
Screen-capture exclusion needs the OS
Only a native window can ask Windows and macOS to leave it out of captured frames. A browser tab cannot, which is why the invisible panel is desktop-only.
System audio needs the OS
A web page can reach your microphone but not the audio your computer is playing. Capturing the call itself — and not the room — requires a native app.
On-device transcription
Speech recognition runs locally on the desktop, so audio never has to leave your machine. That is also what keeps the price low.

Before you install
- Does anything appear in the call?
- No. Aside never joins the meeting — there is no participant, no notification and nothing to admit. It listens to the audio your computer is already playing.
- Why does macOS ask for Screen Recording permission?
- macOS files system-audio capture under the same permission as screen recording. Aside uses it to read the call's audio; it does not record your screen.
- Will it show if I share my entire display?
- No. The window is excluded from capture at the operating-system level, so it stays out of full-display shares, window shares and screenshots alike.
- Can I use it on my phone?
- A phone cannot capture the audio of a call it is not hosting, so the app is desktop-only. You can pair your phone as a second screen to read answers on.
- Does it work offline?
- Transcription can run entirely on your machine. Generating answers needs a connection.
